Press release - Removal of murals

Encouraged by the move to remove the mural from the substation in Ive Robića Street in Zagreb, we consider it important to react to a move that we consider completely inappropriate., especially at a time when the whole of Croatia is preparing to commemorate the tragedy of Vukovar and Škabrnja. We are convinced that any removal of the murals that mark the creation of the Croatian state sends a bad picture of the attitude of those responsible towards the sacrifice made by Croatian defenders., but also civilians and many families laid down so that they could live in a free state today. Such moves only show a lack of respect for that victim, and above all to all those killed in the war and their families. In the coming weeks, lighted candles would burn at the site of that mural in memory and gratitude to all those who gave their lives for us., as above in many such locations throughout Zagreb. The act of removing the mural shows a high level of misunderstanding and extreme insensitivity to the still present wounds. We are grateful to the Bed Blue Boys for their quick response and re-painting of the substation, and we strongly condemn the attempt of the ruling party in the City of Zagreb to shift the responsibility for the removal to HEP. We hope that this will not become a common course of action and that we will not witness the further removal of murals dedicated to the creation of the state and the memory of the victims..
